"The Missing Laborer"

"The Missing Laborer" by Luis Del Valle is a compelling artwork that prompts reflection on themes of labor, identity, and social justice. This art piece features a solitary figure, depicted with a sense of anonymity or absence, emphasizing the idea of missing or overlooked workers in society. Del Valle's use of stark contrasts and expressive lines draws attention to the often invisible or marginalized laborers whose contributions are vital yet unrecognized. The composition invites viewers to consider the humans stories behind labor, highlighting themes of vulnerability and resilience. Overall, it serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of acknowledging and valuing all forms of work within our communities.

In an interview with Luis Del Valle, he gave specific details about the art piece, and what they mean.

1. The figure in the piece represents people who are essential, but ignored, workers whose contributions matter but remain invisible.

2. The black doll in the piece symbolizes the deportations of all affected races (e.g., Hispanics, African Americans, etc.) and how children are separated from their families due to these deportation.

3. The words in the background represent the roles of parents in a household (the father works and the mother in charge of the home).

4. The different voices is like an echo of where a home used to be.

5. The red and white colors from the milk carton come from a stop signs, and acts like a warning that something bad and unusual will occur.

This art piece has so many elements, and each of those elements come together to send an important message.
